Just in time for soup season! This is a vintage chicken-shaped soup tureen made in Italy; often referred to as a Barbotine Grande Soupière. Although the internet suggests it is likely made of majolica or porcelain, I cannot confirm. These are used as serving dishes, usually for festive occasions, but who says rules are to be followed?!
The intricate design is hand painted in warm yellows and greens. I have scoured this piece and the only damage I could find was a 1/4 inch chip at the base of the lid. It is in excellent condition. This serving dish does not include the laddle as I could not locate it but I do love the look of a wooden handle against the bright ceramic.
This rooster is quite robust with measurements of:
