Orthoceras ("straight horn") is a genus of extinct nautiloid cephalopod restricted to Middle Ordovician-aged marine limestone. This is an authentic extinct cephalopod preserved in limestone dated to be 450 million years old from Morocco.

An Orthoceras in an elongated ink-fish like animal. The different chambers can be observed in the fossil. Orthoceras belongs to the group of Cephalopods. This particular fossil has a slender, elongated shell with the middle of its body chamber transversely constricted. The fossil's surface is ornamented by a network of fine lines or ridges, a sculptural feature of the outside of the shells of various animals.

This Orthoceras fossil approximately measures 4 1/2" (11.43 cm) by 2 1/2" (6.35 cm) at its widest point. It weighs 175.8 grams (~6.20 ounces). This fossil is in excellent condition.
