Rare true first edition of this beloved work of fantastical, allegorical literature, one of the most enduring works by this innovative author. Jacket is protected in new archival sleeve but with rubbing/scuffing to faces and heavy wear around the edges - including chipping, creases and tears. Boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped and some slight fading around edges. Binding is firm and spine is straight. Previous owner’s inscription of reverse side of front fep and with faint soiling to outer edges of text block, otherwise all pages are clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition.
