"Cities of the Plain" by Marcel Proust. Published in 1938 by the Modern Library. Translated by C.K. Scott Moncrief. Stated First Edition.

This edition has thinner cover boards than the later Modern Library editions. Top page edges are dyed red to match the cover.

"Cities of the Plain is the fourth of the 7 volumes of Prousts lifework under the general title of Remembrance of Things Past. In this volume, Prousts novel takes up for the first time the theme of homosexual love and examines how destructive sexual jealousy can be for those who suffer it. Sodom and Gomorrah (Cities of the Plain) is also an unforgiving analysis of both the decadent high society of Paris and the rise of a philistine bourgeoisie that will inevitably supplant it."

Book is in Very Good condition. Some staining on the back cover. Remnant of a tag on the bottom of the spine. Corners are bumped a little. Interior is in Great condition! Pages are bright and clean with just a slight hint of browning.
