Made in the style of the 18th and 19th century lidded mugs Small Pewter Covered Flagon for Wine or Eucharist . Has double acorn thumb piece lid.
This is an old pewter wine jug made by the Swiss company JP Della Bianca. Has several hand tax stamps on the lid and is embossed on the bottom with the maker’s mark. Has another mark engraved in the bottom of inside. This was made to fill or refill a single serving of wine. Over the years they were sometimes used to serve the Eucharist communion in Christian churches. One expert dated this from 1850’s to 1900’s. This is in great condition with light signs of use. . The short chain was used to keep the contents inside when on a sailing vessel. It measures approx 5 " inches tall and 2-1/2 inches diameter.
