1832 Nova Scotia Half Penny Token, specifically the reverse side featuring a thistle design.
Token Details
Origin: Issued by Nova Scotia, Canada, during the reign of King George IV.
Denomination: Halfpenny (½ Penny).
Year: 1832.
Composition: Copper.
Design: The reverse side shows a two-leaved thistle head with the words "HALFPENNY TOKEN" around it and the date below. The obverse (not pictured) features a laureate and draped bust of King George IV facing left with the legend "PROVINCE OF NOVA SCOTIA".
Significance: These were issued as unofficial tokens by the local government of Nova Scotia because they had difficulty getting formal approval for a provincial coin issue from Britain. The manufacturer followed instructions to use the bust of George IV even though William IV had become king two years earlier.
